Born in the village of Ixtlahuaca, in the state of Mexico, Emilio Amero counts Spaniards and Otomi Indians among his ancestors.  Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Mexico City, where Emilio attended grammar school, and in 1911, began his studies in art at the Academy of San Carlos.  He also studied drawing privately with Antonio Gomez, a family friend and well-known newspaper artist.

In 1917 Amero started working for the newspaper Mexico Nuevo and in the following year again enrolled at the academy, where he became acquainted with Diaz de Leon, Riufino Tamayo, Ramon Alva de la Canal, Enrique Ugarte, and Leopoldo Mendez-all students there at the time.  Later he joined the open air school in Coyoacan, founded and directed by Alfredo Ramos Martinez.  He and Jean Charlot, with whom he later worked closely in graphic arts, first met   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 2998 characters.]  Artist bio
